On Sept.30th, I attended and addressed those who were participating in the Multiple Melanoma Walk at the Vollmer Complex. This worthy event was well attended on a rather cool raw day. They must have done well financially, because of the size and enthusiasm of the group. I received multiple compliments
regarding the Vollmer Complex from out of Towners, and proud comments from our residents who attended.
This past weekend we held the annual Beerfest at the Vollmer Complex. As we experienced last year, Friday was well attended, with little concern for any adverse weather. As experienced last year, we had horrible weather during the day on Saturday, necessitating the cancellation of the Fun Run.
However, despite the rain, the Saturday evening event was held. Congratulations to the spirit and perseverance of our staff. Julie Columbus, Patti Funero, Kim Scherer, Mark Beggs and the support staff, including Dale Langlois and the Administration Staff that volunteered deserve our appreciation and thanks.
Today, the Federal Minister of Science, Kirsty Duncan, accompanied by Dr. Trevor Pitcher, and students from the University of Windsor attended the Riverdance to view the Freshwater Research Station. The Minister was extremely impressed, and demonstrated a great deal of appreciation for the partnership that has evolved between the Town and the University. This union can only be described as a good thing for the Town, and the grant prospects for the University to further research at this site. It was a very uplifting visit.
Congratulations is extended to Ray Bondy, a long time loyal employee who retired on September 28th. Ray Bondy began his career 30 years ago as a Volunteer Firefighter and concluded it after many exemplary years of service as a reliable full time Firefighter. Ray is a humble man that was admired for his quiet leadership. He was a dependable, trustworthy public employee who never lost sight of his obligation to the community. He is someone that comes to mind when you think of Emergency Services personnel that live in our Town and are never off duty. He is a part of our community, not just an
employee. Well done Ray, and best wishes for a terrific retirement.
The October 23rd Council meeting has been cancelled, and the next scheduled meeting will be November 13th due to the Municipal and School Board Election.
